9/4/2007
Members of the Chester County House Republican Delegation recently announced state grants from the Department of the Environmental Protection totaling $894,174 having been allotted to Chester County and local municipalities.

"Conservationism and recycling have become instrumental tools as we struggle to preserve our environment’s vitality," delegation members said. “We are happy to see local governments’ efforts being rewarded and encouraged by the state of Pennsylvania."

Members of the delegation added that the grants are particularly effective at rewarding performance, enhancing enforcement capabilities and encouraging a cleaner state.

The grants are as follows:
  • $771,135 under the Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants Program of Act 536 of 1966, which will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county’s expenses for meeting sewage enforcement provisions.
  • $54,592 and $5,757 under the PA Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program of Act 190 of 1996, which will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the costs associated with holding two household hazardous waste collection events.
  • $54,367 under the County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program of Act 101 of 1988, which will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county’s expenses for keeping a recycling coordinator on staff.
  • $8,323 Recycling Performance Grant Program of Act 101 of 1988, which gives municipalities and counties further incentives to increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling. This grant was awarded to New London Township.
