Hennessey and Corbett to Host Senior Crime Prevention Seminar on Thursday
Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Coatesville) will join forces with Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett to host a Senior Crime Prevention Seminar at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, in the social hall at the Tel Hai Retirement Community.
“Older Pennsylvanians are often the target of identity theft and underhanded scams,” Hennessey said. “The purpose of this seminar is to empower local senior citizens to protect themselves against these types of threats. Through education and information, we can help older Pennsylvanians protect their hard-earned assets from falling into the hands of a criminal.”
The seminar, which is FREE to attend and open to the public, is part of Corbett’s Senior Crime Prevention University (SCPU) program, which educates older Pennsylvanians and their families throughout the Commonwealth about crime prevention. The theme of the SCPU is “aware, avoid, alert.”
The seminar will provide senior citizens with information to make them aware of the scams that are targeted at them, teach them how to avoid those threats and ensure they know to alert local law enforcement when they are the victim of a scam.
Dave Shallcross, community liaison with the Office of the Attorney General, will share information about the latest tricks criminals are using to commit fraud and scams. The SCPU outreach program is part of Corbett’s continuing dedication to protecting the citizens of Pennsylvania against identity thieves and scam artists through public information campaigns and by prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law those who use another’s personal information to commit fraud.
The Tel Hai Retirement Community is located at 1200 Tel Hai Circle in Honey Brook. While the seminar is free to attend, residents are encouraged to reserve a seat by calling one of Hennessey’s district offices at the following phone numbers:
  • Coatesville:  610-380-8600.
  • Pottstown – Spring City:  610-326-2626.
  • Elverson: 610-286-9194.
“I encourage local senior citizens and their families to consider attending this free informational meeting,” Hennessey said. “Participating in my Senior Crime Prevention Seminar could be the difference between protecting yourself against or becoming a victim of a scam artist.”
