Pottstown Borough to Receive Grant for Memorial Park, Says Hennessey, Quigley
11/17/2017
HARRISBURG – Reps. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery) and Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) said today Pottstown Borough in Montgomery County will receive a $200,000 Commonwealth Financing Authority grant to assist in improvements in Memorial Park.

“Memorial Park has approximately 55 acres of active recreational use and is a gem in the community,” said Hennessey. “This grant will aid in the overall cost of the improvement project and will add parking and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance for the overall area."

“With the increased growth of tourist destinations, like the Colebrookdale Railroad in Pottstown, it is important to invest in the maintenance and refurbishment of our parks and trails,” Quigley said. “Parking specifically is an issue at a number of the parks, so the addition of 30 spaces has tremendous value.”

The funding comes from a portion of the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee outlined in Act 13 of 2012. Specifically, the grant is coming from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Fund.

Hennessey said there has been growth in usage of the park and the project will install safety fencing, ADA-compliant playground equipment with a rubber safety surface, a nature-based play area and amenities to support a picnic area for families that will include benches, tables, barbeque grills and landscaping.

ADA-compliant pathways to connect all of the activity areas are also in the construction plan.
