HARRISBURG – As the 2019-20 session of the House of Representatives begins, Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery) today was officially appointed majority chairman of the House Transportation Committee by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).

“I am pleased to receive this appointment to lead the committee that addresses issues impacting Pennsylvania’s infrastructure,” said Hennessey. “We are faced with significant challenges in transportation, not only as a state, but as a nation. These issues need to be addressed as our economy continues to grow.”

Hennessey, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1993, previously served as the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee for six sessions. He said his experience on that committee will serve him well as the session gets underway.

“I intend to work closely with the administration, and with members of the House and Senate in both Republican and Democratic caucuses, to develop an effective and fiscally responsible plan to tackle the issues we face with transportation in Pennsylvania,” said Hennessey. “We must move forward, and we need to do this now. I am bringing an open-minded approach to all facets of our infrastructure. The only way we can be successful is to work together for the benefit of all of our residents. I embrace the challenge.”

“The men and women who chair the House committees are getting the work done to prepare legislation for the full House to consider,” said Turzai. “Through public hearings and voting meetings, committee chairs lead the way be vetting proposed solutions to the serious issues and challenges facing Pennsylvania.”

Committees are outlined in the House Rules that are enacted for each session.
